Stångåstaden
Workshop, interviews, analysis, Boendeboken

About the project
How do we create the housing experience of the future in a world where safety, service, and local presence are just as important as technology and efficiency? When Stångåstaden wanted to explore how they could meet future expectations from tenants and society, we helped gather insights, build understanding, and define direction. Through interviews, workshops, and future scenarios, we created a shared narrative about what a worry-free living experience truly means—and what it takes to deliver it

Purpose
How can a public housing company remain a stable and valued player while facing growing demands for digitalization, safety, and service? Stångåstaden wanted to deeply understand the needs of their tenants while also gaining fresh perspectives from the industry, technological developments, and future housing models. Our mission was to help them collect, interpret, and translate these insights into concrete actions.
Results
To gain a multifaceted view of the current state, we conducted in-depth interviews with Stångåstaden employees, industry peers, and external experts in technology, safety, and future foresight. We facilitated a workshop with young adults to capture their dreams, needs, and perspectives on future living. This led to future scenarios around home healthcare and digital solutions. The result was a report and a book summarizing the insights and outlining the way forward.

Safety as a feeling, not just a function
Safety is more than a working lock or crime statistics. It’s a feeling—of being seen, of belonging, of being able to relax. For Stångåstaden’s tenants, it’s about everyday safety: walking home on a well-lit path, knowing who’s handling your request, easily checking if the laundry room is free or the entrance door is closed.
Safety isn’t built by technology alone—it’s created through presence, transparency, and care. It’s in the meeting between people, systems, and surroundings that the foundation for truly feeling at home is formed.
"Safety is built through presence, not just technology"
A new generation of residents
In a workshop with young people, we discussed what makes a neighborhood attractive. It was about proximity to jobs, school, shops, and leisure activities. We called it “convenience circles”—how far people are willing to go to meet different needs. The more an area aligns with these circles, the more attractive it is perceived to be.
From Stable management to a focus on the future
Stångåstaden has long been a trusted player with high customer satisfaction. Now, they’re taking the natural next step—from primarily responding to needs to actively anticipating them. Shifting toward a development-driven culture, where innovation and long-term social value go hand in hand with stable operations. By gathering insights from both internal and external perspectives and visualizing possible future scenarios, creating a shared direction for how the customer experience can evolve.
"A home isn’t just the place you live. It’s where you feel you belong."
A worry-free living
Renting your home isn’t a sign of lacking commitment—quite the opposite. But it comes with a different kind of responsibility. The tenant expects the basics to work seamlessly: consistent heating, clean water, secure entryways, and smooth handling of requests. Real value is created in the invisible—in the peace of mind that comes from not having to worry.
Here, the customer experience isn’t about technical sophistication, but about trust. The tenant isn’t buying a smart home, but a worry-free living experience. It’s Stångåstaden’s mission to deliver that service—with care, precision, and foresight.
"The tenant isn’t buying a smart home—they’re buying the service of worry-free living."
